About the Designer
Sheena Baptiste was born on the beautiful island of Kaua’i, Hawaii, where she grew up around animals, friends, exciting adventures, and grandparents that nurtured her creativity. She loves all forms of creative expression and enjoys drawing, painting, pottery, gardening, and most of all, jewelry making. As you can guess, her favorite bird is the sparrow for a list of reasons but mainly because of their symbolism.
At a young age, she loved drawing and making jewelry from bead craft kits she got as gifts. For years, she had been using her creativity as a fun way to decompress from the stressors of life. She also enjoyed the outdoors and spent time hunting and hiking in the mountains behind her home. Drawn to the tranquility of the forest and rivers, she loved being surrounded by nature and feeling at peace.
After she graduated from high school, she pursued a degree at Chaminade University of Honolulu where she graduated with her Bachelors in psychology in 2010. She went back and received her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology in 2013. She worked as a substance abuse counselor where she facilitated groups and individual counseling sessions. Although it was rewarding, counseling was mentally draining. After work, she would craft and make jewelry as a way to decompress. Her love for making jewelry became an outlet that eventually turned into a business. Not long after starting her career, she got married in the spring of 2014. In the summer of 2019, Sheena and her husband expanded their family and welcomed a beautiful baby girl. Throughout her life, her passion for self-expression and the value of mental health through artistic and creative outlets was a stepping stone in the evolution of Seven Sparrows.
